About the Bantam & Our Brand

The Bantam Tea Rooms, Chipping Campden

The Bantam is a historic tearoom with accommodation rooms, sensitively restored and refurbished, – a place to eat – drink and sleep.

Set in the heart of the Cotswolds we serve home baked and freshly prepared food in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Environment at the Bantam

The principles that have guided our business are at the heart of everything we do at the Bantam – from the locally sourced ingredients in our kitchens, to using local craftsman and blacksmith on our journey.

Our restoration of the Bantam combine locally sourced natural materials like the cut stone tiles from nearby Guiting quarry with centuries old techniques, creating a long lasting environment with minimum impact to our surroundings.

Through thoughtful design choices, we have been able to remodel much of the building, stone and floors being revealed and re- appropriated, original beams and features were exposed and celebrated.

In the kitchen very little is wasted and we are always mindful of where we source our produce, using local ingredients and suppliers wherever possible, such as our soups, free-range eggs, all our meats and honey.

We are lucky to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscape in the country and we encourage our guests to explore Chipping Campden and see first hand the rich hedgerows, diverse wildlife and wild flower meadows that are all hallmarks of this special place.

Tearoom

In the restored tearooms with the original draper’s shop oak parquet flooring and butchers flag stone floors combining, we kept the original stone mullioned windows, low ceilings and magnificent fireplace.

Original Cotswold stone walls surround the length of the tearooms where we serve fresh daily baked world class scones, with cream and homemade preserves and jams.

The History

The name originally is the guild house where merchants and traders would meet to discuss and transact their commerce

More recently a drapers and butchers, the originally hanging rack remains, then combining into a single tearooms shop in 1949. A building constructed in Cotswold stone with beautiful proportions, known for its convivial atmosphere and welcoming real fireplace.

The Glass Room

Our more contemporary tearoom is a bustling and light space. With an open kitchen next to, the experience and theatre of our cooks as work creates a dynamic atmosphere.

Rooms to Stay

The rooms are built with elements of raw, rural simplicity combined with touches of unapologetic luxury.

Each room has a distinct personality, they show the exposed stone and aged oak beams and are furnished with linens, wools and one-off pieces of furniture.

The bathrooms combine modern and traditional elements including dry stone walling in some bathrooms.
